Sprylab Coronavirus reaction: 6 impressions from our new life as video conference

Times have changed so fast, haven’t they? Business as usual was yesterday. 

In the current situation, our top priority is the health and safety of our employees and our community, including our customers, partners and prospects. 

Next to health and safety, the continuing success of our customers is the most important thing to us. In these uncertain times, we see it as our duty to help you distribute your magazine or newspaper content digitally to your readers.  

Even if your print distribution is temporarily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, we will work hard to ensure that you continue to reach your readers. 

Here are 6 changes that we have made to get through this unprecedented time together with you.



1 Customer Success 

We work tirelessly to find quick solutions for your new requirements. We will not let you down, that much we can promise you!

To enable more members of our team to actively work on customer projects, we started to reallocate resources from Sales at the beginning of March. We are also fortunate that our Customer Success Team will be strengthened as of April 1.  

In the meantime, it is probably superfluous to mention: but all our activities and projects will continue as usual. We are still well equipped to maintain our productivity in a virtual environment. If you have any questions, our Customer Success employees are of course still available for daily meetings, calls, e-mails and chat. 



2 Team 

At SPRYLAB we are there for each other. This is especially important in exceptional situations such as these. Although physically separated, we have moved even closer together as a team in recent weeks. This was the only way we could adapt to the new situation at such short notice.  

Here are some impressions from my colleagues in the home office: 

“The switch to 100% remote has worked almost without a hitch. The meetings and the Scrum process also work well via video chat. Despite everything, I miss the spontaneous conversations at the coffee machine. But here we are already trying out various virtual alternatives”.

“I’m so glad we have a garden and my children can play outside. I also look at my watch less often. We can even have a spontaneous barbecue at lunchtime and work again afterwards. But I spend most of my time in the kitchen working next to the toaster, organising job interviews.”

3 Communication 

Communication has been a huge focus for us in the current situation. In our home office, our motto is “Better to talk or chat too much than too little” – whether with our customers, employees or partners. 

By the way, our favourite collaboration tool at SPRYLAB has long been Microsoft Teams. Recently, there has also been a company-wide policy that all conversations should be conducted using video. This allows us to maintain effective communication (non-verbal communication) and brings us so much closer to a face-to-face meeting.

Another anchor that helps us a lot is our meeting structure. Daily stand-ups and team meetings as well as our weekly 1:1 discussions continue to ensure focus and team spirit. For us it is very important to maintain this habit in our home office. To prevent isolation, our other meeting rituals such as Virtual Kitchen Talks, Blind Lunch Dates and the monthly All-Hands Breakfast continue to take place as video conferences. 



4 Virtual Exchange 

We have thought a lot about how we can best help you in these difficult times. How do we strike the right note? Where can we best meet you, now that almost all personal meetings and events have been postponed? 

We have come to the conclusion that in these times it is especially helpful to exchange information with others and learn from each other. At SPRYLAB, we are thinking, for example, of more live webinars with Q&A and, above all, more personal videos from our CEO Stephan Heck, in which he shares his personal views and tries to help.  

 



5 Health and Hygiene 

At SPRYLAB, we are extremely happy to be able to work entirely from home.  

Naturally, we have adapted all our business and home hygiene standards to meet the recommendations of the government. In addition, we try to protect ourselves and our fellow human beings with a few more actions.

Restricting our physical social contacts, working and staying at home, regular extensive hand washing and keeping the minimum distance of 1.5 meters are essential for us.



6 Gratitude 

Our corporate philosophy is to face this situation with empathy, creativity and speed. 

Although I’m mainly speaking for myself now, I also know that some of my colleagues feel the same way: because despite the current exceptional situation, I also feel gratitude.  

I am grateful for all the people who literally keep the business running in so-called system relevant professions.  

Grateful for the fact that we work in an industry that is comparatively less affected.
