PRODUCTS USED

With the ePaper of the Zofinger Tagblatt, ZT Medien AG not only wants to provide its readers with a digital edition of the city and regional newspaper. The versatile digital offerings should also be integrated. The Swiss publishing house uses Purple's e-paper publishing software for this purpose.

About the Zofinger Tagblatt

The Zofinger Tagblatt is a German-language Swiss daily newspaper published by ZT Medien AG for the city and region of Zofingen. It informs its readers about current regional and local events in the geographical triangle of the Aarau, Solothurn and Sursee region. The newspaper also reports on national and worldwide events in politics, business and society.

Digitally versatile and networked for readers in the region

The publisher of the Zofinger Tagblatt is the regional publishing group ZT Medien AG. In recent years, it has developed from a traditional newspaper publisher into a modern multimedia house. In addition to the classic daily newspapers, ZT Medien also offers its customers its content on various digital channels.

The decision for Purple DS supported the publishing house's goal of finding a holistic and sustainable solution for its digital presence.

"With the app, we will be able to provide our readers with additional digital offers on their mobile devices in addition to the daily edition in the future" says Roger Schoch, Project Manager Digitalization at ZT Medien AG.

The ePaper offers readers versatile functions

The e-paper can be read both in the app and in the browser and is in no way inferior to the printed edition. In the digital edition, readers can find the layout and content of the Zofinger Tagblatt 1:1. Readers also have access to older issues from the digital archive. Each issue can be downloaded as a PDF and can therefore be read without an Internet connection.

Comfortable reading in reading mode

In the overview, the user can select the desired issue of the Zofinger Tagblatt and then read it page by page. In the page view of an issue, the user then selects the desired article. Thanks to the "reading mode," the article can be read in portrait and landscape format on any mobile device. In addition, the font size can be adjusted and switched between day and night mode.

Readers have the choice: read aloud or read themselves

Through the seamless integration of Amazon's text-to-speech service, Amazon Polly, subscribers to the Zofinger Tagblatt can have an article read to them. The Zofinger Tagblatt offers its readers a choice of a female and a male voice for this purpose. Foreign words, company names or acronyms are pronounced phonetically correctly with the help of digital dictionaries or word lists.

Access to all digital content

Readers can access all digital content from ZT Medien AG via the ePaper app menu. For example, users can follow the latest happenings on the news portal ZT News. The news overview ZT 100 Seconds informs viewers about the most important information of the day from the region.

Calendar of events

Users can also access the region's event calendar, the radioinside livestream, and the ZT-Talk video podcast with a single click via the app menu. The editorial team also sends push notifications on the most important topics to the smartphone or tablet.
