Let's take on the challenges together
Today, hardly any publisher solves the big questions of local journalism alone. The publishing business is driven by fixed costs, and on your own it can hardly be scaled economically. This is exactly where Nitro comes in: as an independent technology partner, Purple provides the platform and takes the technical load off your shoulders. So that you can concentrate on your strengths: your brands, your editorial team and your regional know-how.
The future of regional journalism does not emerge in a solo effort: a shared tech stack, shared solutions, shared learnings. This way you use enterprise functions for a fraction of the cost, because the further development is spread across many media houses. Your independence remains 100% untouched in the process.
We know the industry and its challenges: 12 local and regional publishers such as Heidenheimer Zeitung, reiff medien and Somedia already work with Purple, and as a supporting member of the Association of German Local Newspapers we have been close to the topics that move the industry for over 5 years. That is exactly what this day is about: thinking together and trying things out yourself.

From editorial and technology

More than 20 years of journalism, from trainee to editor-in-chief. Andreas was most recently editor-in-chief of Schwäbische Zeitung, with more than 17 years in its newsroom in total, around ten of them in the editor-in-chief role. He knows the questions that land on the table in regional publishers every day. At Purple, he connects editorial, workflows and systems and accompanies houses through introduction and transition. He moderates the day and translates between editorial reality and technology.
"For the newsroom, it is always about everything working in practice in the newsroom, not just in theory on presentation slides."

Computer scientist and publishing strategist in one. Three years as a project engineer at Daimler in Sindelfingen taught him what keeps complex technical systems stable over the long term. In 2007 he founded SPRYLAB with Benjamin Kolb to bring this discipline into an industry that needed exactly that. Today, as CEO, he is responsible for the strategy, sales and growth of Purple and is a sought-after conversation partner for publishing decision-makers at the VDL industry meeting, at the BDZV and in webinars.
"Publishing is driven by fixed costs, and on its own a regional house struggles to keep up. In a network, one house builds a feature and everyone benefits."
From the first coffee to the finished story
One day in Berlin. First you develop a target vision together, then you implement it yourself in the system, from the first planning to the finished print page. With plenty of room for exchange among each other.
Our next dates: 27 August or 22 September 2026.
The schedule may vary in detail.
Not a rented conference room, but our home
You are where Purple is created: in our Berlin office, in the middle of Germany's tech and publishing scene, with a view of the TV tower in the distance. Fresh coffee, cool drinks and enough room to work in a focused way and to exchange ideas in between.

Questions about the workshop?
You will gain a clear picture of how independent local and regional newsrooms will work in the future, and experience first-hand how Purple supports you in getting there. By the end of the day, you will have worked in the system yourself and leave with concrete next steps for your publishing house.

Attendance is free of charge. Travel and, if needed, accommodation are arranged at your own expense.
No. The focus is on the substance: thinking together about the newsroom of the future and trying out what is already possible today. If you would like to go deeper afterwards, we are happy to talk, but that is not the focus of the day.
At our Purple office in the heart of Berlin: sprylab technologies GmbH, Keithstraße 2–4, 10787 Berlin.
